Fit Building

Context Design Group designed the 6,000 SF Expansion for the existing Process Development Center (PDC) Building to support the New Assembly Line Expansion currently under construction at Plant 10 in Greer, South Carolina. The exterior character is designed to blend with the new expansion and existing facilities. In working with BMW employees, Context Design Group developed a preliminary design based on BMW’s growing need for a vehicle maintenance facility attached to the existing PDC. Multiple options were developed to determine the optimum and most efficient layout for the facility.

The PDC Expansion is designed to house the vehicular service and maintenance functions to support the automotive assembly operation.

The design provides for eight maintenance bays within the garage to service vehicles. The facility also incorporates an IT room renovation with new compressor room, restrooms, company owned vehicle parking, POV parking, access roads, security control integration, exterior facility/parking lighting, vehicle lifts, fuel storage and dispensing, HVAC exhaust systems, and electrical equipment and exhaust systems to support the building functions. Also included is access to the existing PDC’s office support facility and central support functions.

The building design incorporates a non-combustible pre-engineered framing system with insulated metal panel skin to match the existing facility. The interior incorporates fire rated wall systems to isolate the existing facility and maintenance expansion.
