Context Design Group designed an 1,800 square foot addition to the Michelin manufacturing plant that would serve as a new lobby & plant entry for the existing US-1 operating location.  This site is located off Interstate I-185 outside of Greenville, South Carolina, within the Donaldson Center Industrial Park.

The existing plant site is comprised of multiple buildings on a masterplanned campus with a centralized security gate for visitors to the facility. This building addition was designed to be a central gathering point and waiting lobby for all visitors coming to the US-1 production facility. In addition, this new reception lobby would provide visitors an opportunity to learn the Michelin story with product display gallery and company history displays distributed throughout the main level waiting area.

Project consisted of schematic design through construction documents services, in addition to 3D modeling and visualization renderings. The new addition needed to fit with the existing building context both aesthetically and physically while creating an up to date corporate image for the overall campus as visitors enter the US-1 manufacturing location.  As visitors enter the site, existing campus structures frame the New Lobby & Visitor Entry to create the New Focal Point for US-1 Facility. The design of the new lobby allows it to physically attach with the existing manufacturing facility but visually stands out as the main entry for the facility as all visitor’s approach from the existing security guard position on the campus.

Also included is an outdoor break area to be used by the manufacturing workforce with directly adjacent employee break / locker rooms. Modifications have been made in the design to incorporate existing large trees in the outdoor break area.
