Programming & Schematic Design
Context Design Group did the programming and schematic design for what was to become the City of Greenville Commerce Center. A 550,000 square foot existing building would need to accommodate the consolidation of multiple city services, which are currently each in separate buildings, into one cohesive area. The process involved the interviewing and invoicing of several city departments in order to determine current and future requirements for space allocation. Certain departments needed more room to grow in the future, and some departments just needed a space that functioned differently than their existing space. We needed to be able to work within the limitations of the existing building in order to reduce the upfit cost, but still needed to be able to provide each department with what they needed. Each city department needed to be able to function as its own entity while still working and sharing functional aspects with other city departments.
